The Idaho Women’s Basketball team is back in the Big Sky Conference Tournament final. It is their sixth conference final since 2013. This Dynasty keeps rolling. But, can it add more hardware? Two trophies are up for grabs Friday afternoon.
I have stated on multiple occasions I am not the biggest basketball guy. I tend to stick to the gridiron. But, getting to see this team on the hardwood in Boise this March has been a treat. I also figured there’s no better time to jump in the deep-end than now. With the football game against Northern Arizona postponed, Vandal fans’ weekends just opened up, giving you a golden opportunity to watch something special.
Though shorthanded, notably missing 2nd team All-Conference stud Gina Marxen at point, freshman Sydney Gandy is proof this dynasty doesn’t rebuild — it reloads. This team grinds. Gandy logged over 40 minutes in the last game. She wasn’t the only one grinding. Going into halftime Wednesday night against Montana State, senior post Natalie Klinker couldn’t even talk as she was so out of breath having logged over 30 minutes. In fact, five players played over 29 minutes on Wednesday night.
If a trip to the ‘Ship, and a chance at the big dance, doesn’t get your blood going … how about our opponent? We face our in-state rivals, the Idaho State Bengals. It’s a team that Vandal coach Jon Newlee once coached and left for, well, greener grass as they say. The Bengals aren’t really over it.
I may not be a big basketball guy, but, no football equals no reason not to tune into PlutoTV channel 1050 at 11PT/12MT and watch these bad-asses take the hardwood, and kick some Bengal tail! Then join Marten after for his live reaction after the win. Lets see if all that glitters is GOLD!
